The most recent episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon starts right where the last one left off. Continuing from where we left off— Daryl (Norman Reedus) is badly hurt and stuck in a dirty bathroom in the middle of France. Outside, Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) is fighting to stay alive because she is the only one left alive after Madame Marion Genet’s cruel killings. When Genet’s dangerous experiment, the “hybrids,” shows up, things go badly. These walkers are faster, stronger, and more dangerous than ever.
But Carol isn’t one to give up. As she takes over a car and drags Codron along with her, they accidentally lead the hybrids right to Daryl’s location. Madame Marion Genet’s plan may not have worked out, but the chaos that follows is terrible. A soldier’s cannon blast destroys the Nest, and hybrids rush into the area, causing chaos. Codron keeps his promise and stays behind to fight the hybrids. He asks Carol to tell Daryl that he helped her for Laurent.
Losang (Joel de la Fuente) is questioning Isabelle (Clémence Poésy) inside the Nest, where she is not aware of the chaos outside. He says she’s lost her way and says Daryl is to blame for her rebellion. Isabelle, on the other hand, is defiant and says that Daryl opened her eyes and showed her that Laurent is only a boy and can be hurt or die. Losang gets very angry about this, so he stabs her and leaves her to bleed out on the cold floor while the flock leaves her.
Isabelle wakes up, even though she was badly hurt, but she can’t move very well and is barely holding on to life. She stumbles through the Nest’s chaos, trying to stay away from the dangerous hybrids until she meets Carol. Even though Carol cleans her wound, Isabelle’s time is running out. At the same time, a young member of the flock sets Daryl free, and he quickly acts to stop the spread of the hybrids. When he finally sees Carol again, you can feel how close they are emotionally. Still, the pain isn’t over yet.
Isabelle’s life ends just as Carol comes to help. Daryl says goodbye to her with tears in his eyes as —she dies on a bench. Isabelle’s last wish is for Daryl to take care of Laurent and let him know that she will always be with him in spirit. This sad ending to Isabelle’s story solidifies her character on the show as someone who had a big effect on Daryl and also shows how strong and important she was.
Carol and Daryl are able to get out of the Nest, but now Daryl is only thinking about keeping Laurent safe. They find nowhere to hide in the cave where Laurent and Fallou were. Laurent always willing to find a way to help, left his Rubik’s Cube behind to help Daryl and Carol find him. Carol and Daryl talk about their lives and the people they’ve met as they drive. Carol also tells Daryl that Codron told her that he fought for Laurent’s sake.
During the course of the episode, Genet captures Losang to find out where Laurent is. The stakes could not be higher now that both groups are looking for the boy. Following Laurent’s trail, Daryl and Carol keep going on their trip. They meet Didi and Theo—an older couple along the way. They tell them that Laurent and Fallou had been there but had already moved on. Daryl and Carol are invited to stay with the couple who gives them a chance to rest and think.
But the peace doesn’t last long. The Guerrier, Genet’s soldiers—show up and ask for information about Laurent. Theo points the gun at the Guerrier to defend his home and the people he cares about but it’s too late. There is more chaos when Genet’s men mix Didi and Theo together. During the battle, Carol gives Genet an injection of the hybrid serum which changes her into a horrible creature before she finally dies from the injection.
Daryl and Carol bury Didi and think about the next steps after the dust settles. When Daryl is truly open, he tells Isabelle that he feels something for her and says that Laurent is what keeps their group together. But even though he’s lost people, he still wants to go home to Carol.
At the Nest, Sabine tells Losang that Genet has died, which starts the struggle for power. Losang tries to bring the different groups together now that Genet is gone but the search for —Laurent goes on because everyone thinks the boy is the key to the future.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 Episode 4 is a gripping episode that brings Daryl and Carol closer together and marks the sad end of Isabelle’s journey. It’s clear that the fights that lie ahead will test their strength and determination like never before as the race to find Laurent heats up.
