As Season 5 of The Equalizer begins, there are fewer people on the team, but the stakes are higher than ever. This episode called “The Lost Ones” starts with Robyn McCall (Queen Latifah) having a strange nightmare. Her team has been cut down but danger is closer than ever. Will Robyn be able to handle these threats by herself?

The Equalizer Season 5 Episode 1 Recap
At the beginning of the episode, Robyn (Queen Latifah) is having a bad dream that won’t go away. She is tied to a chair in this scary dream and a dark version of herself taunts her— “No one’s coming for you.” These nightmares seem to be a sign of Robyn’s growing loneliness, since her team used to have a lot of people who were important to it but now there are only a few. Dante, played by Tory Kittles, has taken a job with the federal government in Los Angeles, leaving her behind right after they kissed. Mel (Liza Lapira), on the other hand, has taken a step back to deal with her mental health and heal from past trauma. She has been doing yoga to help her.
Aunt Vi (Lorraine Toussaint), who is at breakfast, sees that Robyn is tired from working so hard and tells her to take a break. Also, she talks about Dante. Robyn says that they don’t talk as much as they used to. Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes) joins them at the table and Robyn’s ex-husband Miles (Stephen Bishop) seems to be coming over more often. Aunt Vi, who is always watching gives Miles hints that he might want to get back together with Robyn.
Even though these things are changing, crime doesn’t wait for anyone. Soon, Robyn’s attention is drawn to a terrible case. A scary man chased an 11-year-old girl through the streets and then took her away. Sarah, the girl’s guardian and person who has been taking care of her and her older brother, comes up to Robyn. To help take care of his sister, the brother stole a grocery truck and went to get food. They quickly figure out, though, that the truck wasn’t carrying groceries; it was loaded with guns, owned by some very dangerous people.
The thieves, led by Paco Alvarez, have taken the girl hostage and want their truck back by 8 p.m., or they will kill her. There’s a big problem: the truck is nowhere to be found. The boy really wants to save his sister. Robyn and her trusted tech expert Harry (Adam Goldberg) start looking for the truck and the people who took the kids.
Harry tries to get in touch with Dante, but he is currently busy with a case in Los Angeles involving a child predator ring. Dante still cares about Robyn, even though he can’t help her directly. Harry makes sure to tell him that Robyn misses him too.
Robyn finds Paco at the place where criminals hang out and forces her way inside to talk to him. Paco tells them that the girl is now with Diego Sueño, a cruel drug dealer who has pushed up the deadline. Diego wants the stolen guns three hours earlier than planned, which gives Robyn even less time to do something.
As time runs out, Harry finally finds the truck—it’s in an impound lot run by the New York Police Department. By paying off the officer in charge, Robyn is able to get into the impound, but things get worse when she goes to get the truck. The girl’s brother is so determined to save her that he decides to do something about it himself. He makes an offer to Diego: he will give Diego his sister in exchange for himself. Diego, however, lies to him and captures both of them.
Robyn goes to Diego’s warehouse hideout because she wants to save the kids. Along the way, Harry tells her that the bad guys she’s fighting are working for Angel Salazar, a dangerous cartel leader. Without giving up, Robyn storms the warehouse and saves the kids, but not before seeing Angel show up and kill both Paco and Diego.
Angel captures Robyn and tries to break her by torturing her but Robyn as always won’t give in. Harry, who was watching from afar— stops talking to Robyn after leaving his job to help Mel during a panic attack. When Mel saw a gun in her bar, she had a flashback, and Harry rushed to help her. When he gets back, Robyn is already in a dangerous situation, so he calls the police right away for help.
Robyn beats her captor and just barely gets out of the warehouse before a grenade is thrown at her. When she falls outside, it looks like she’s out of luck, but just in time, the kidnapped kids drive up in her car and save her. They get away together but not before Angel gives them a scary warning. Angel swears that his deal with Robyn isn’t over as they drive off.
At home, Robyn has to deal with how she feels about what happened. Miles shows up again and this time he takes care of Robyn’s wounds which shows how worried he is. When he asks why her team wasn’t there to protect her. Robyn says, “The only person I can trust to be there is myself.”
Robyn feels even more alone at the end of the episode— even though her friends and family are trying to get in touch with her. Robyn has a tough time in her personal life and as the Equalizer. Dante is far away, Mel is dealing with her own problems, and in the background, Angel Salazar is a dangerous new enemy. The beginning of Season 5 is tense and full of action, setting the tone for a tough season to come.
