The Nun 2 by New Line, the follow-up to 2018’s worldwide hit The Nun, which was the highest-grossing entry in the Conjuring Universe to date, will star Taissa Farmiga, Storm Reid, Anna Popplewell, and Katelyn Rose Downey. Anna Popplewell is best known for her work on The Chronicles of Narnia series, and Katelyn Rose Downey is best known for her role in The Princess (2022) and Clean Sweep.
The original movie was watched as Sister Irene (Farmiga), a novice on the verge of taking her last vows, and a priest with a troubled background (Demián Bichir) traveled to Romania to look into the death of a young nun and battle a demonic nun. Gary Dauberman’s screenplay, which was based on a narrative he co-wrote with James Wan, served as the basis for Corin Hardy’s direction.
The Nun 2 will See Taissa Farmiga Return As Sister Irene
The plot of the sequel’s prequel is being kept a secret, but Farmiga will return as Sister Irene. Even though it hasn’t been confirmed, Popplewell is rumored to play Marcella, a widowed mother to Sophie, a 10-year-old character who will likely be played by Downey, who works as a teacher at St. Mary’s School in France.
The seventh and most recent installment of The Conjuring movie, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, was directed by Michael Chaves; it debuted at #1 at the box office in 2021 and helped the franchise reach over $2B globally, becoming it the highest-grossing horror film series of all time.
The Nun 2’s script was written by Akela Cooper (M3GAN), with recent edits made by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing. Wan from Atomic Monster and Safran from The Safran Company, who has produced every movie in the franchise to date, are in charge of production. Atomic Monster is being directed by Judson Scott, with Michael Clear and Dauberman serving as executive producers. The movie is set to be released by Warner Bros. on September 8, 2023.
From 2005 to 2010, Popplewell portrayed Susan Pevensie in the Disney and 20th Century Fox Chronicles of Narnia movies. From 2013 to 2017, she portrayed Lola Narcisse on The CW’s historical romance series Reign. The actress, who has also performed in films including Freak of Nature, Payback Season, Girl with a Pearl Earring, Thunderpants, and Me Without You, most recently played the lead role in the interactive film The Gallery, which was directed by Paul Raschid. She will next be seen in John Eyres’ romantic comedy Fairytale.
