The Summer I Turned Pretty [S02E03] Recap: “Love Sick”

Date:

Based on the same-named trilogy of Jenny Han’s novels, The Summer I Turned Pretty is an American coming-of-age romantic drama television series that Jenny Han wrote for Amazon Prime Video.

The three-episode Season 2 debut of The Summer I Turned Pretty sent Belly and Conrad fans on an emotional rollercoaster. The two made the decision to give dating a try, and things got off to a fantastic start. Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Lola Tung) and Conrad Fisher (Christopher Briney) should put their budding romance on hold, however, as a result of Jeremiah’s justifiable rage when Belly went to tell him the truth about their relationship. After all, it was critical that Conrad and Jeremiah get along because they would need one other throughout Susannah’s cancer crisis.

In Episode 2, which takes place around Christmas time, Belly and Conrad sneak away to the Cousins Beach house and spend a wonderful evening together before their relationship takes that terrible turn.  The highly anticipated second season premiere of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” left viewers with tantalizing hints about the truth behind Belly and Conrad’s heartbreaking breakup. In the latest episode, titled “Love Sick,” those breadcrumbs finally lead us to Susannah’s funeral, where the answers we’ve been craving are revealed.

The Summer I Turned Pretty [S02E03] Recap

“The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 2 Episode 3 titled “Love Sick,” takes place on Belly’s prom night. She is meant to go out with Conrad, but he is grumpy and forgets to bring her a bouquet. Belly discovers that Conrad’s heart is no longer in their relationship when they go outdoors to chat. He is outraged that the doctor changed his mother’s medicine, which suggests that the underlying cause is his battle with her deteriorating health. Conrad and Belly break up, with Belly returning the necklace that served as a symbol of their union.

Soon after, Rachel Blanchard‘s Susannah Fisher’s burial is held, and Conrad dedicates a song to his mother in front of everyone. Conrad and Belly share a touching moment as their eyes lock, but something goes awry in the wake. Conrad’s head resting on another woman’s lap is seen by Belly, who is extremely saddened by it. In front of everyone, they get into a passionate dispute and say harsh things to each other. They haven’t seen each other since this encounter until today.

Belly appears at the beach house where Conrad is hiding in the present. Julia, Susannah’s half-sister, is the current owner and has intentions to sell the property. The idea of Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno) using their trust fund to purchase the home is rejected by their father. Steven, who is feeling left out, makes the decision to drive up to the beach house with Taylor (Rain Spencer) as well. They converse flirtatiously along the way, dropping hints about Steven’s affection for Taylor.

Jeremiah and Conrad have given up on saving the seaside house after arriving there. To pass the time, they decide to host a movie night. Conrad reads something on his phone, though, that has a significant impact on him. Steven chases after him to the beach out of fear for his safety. This thrilling scene marks the episode’s conclusion, leaving viewers wondering what Conrad learned and how it will affect the plot going ahead.
