Golden Girls 3033

An animated sci-fi edge is being added to the famous live-action sitcom The Golden Girls by the master of animated comedy Mike Hollingsworth. For Golden Girls 3033, the animator has released a five-minute pilot. It sends our heroes far into the future while retaining all the previous tensions.

The pilot for Golden Girls 3033, directed by BoJack Horseman supervising director Mike Hollingsworth and featuring the iconic TV quartet of Blanche, Dorothy, Rose, and Sophia traveling into the future.

The idea uses animation to transport Blanche (Rue McClanahan), Dorothy (Bea Arthur), Rose (Betty White), and Sophia (Estelle Getty) to Miami in the year 3033, where they discovered Ponce De León’s Fountain of Youth. The hit Susan Harris show ran on NBC for seven seasons from 1985 to 1992. Watch the video bloew

Given the original series’ iconic significance in the gay community, Hollingsworth plans for the episodes to be 30 minutes long.

What has changed now?

The girls rip Stan to pieces in the Golden Girls 3033 pilot when he displays the invisible-to-the-naked-eye diamond he bought for his new fiancée, exactly as they did in the 1989 episode’s original airing.

In Hollingsworth’s adaptation, Stan hurls the pious Rose about with his tentacles and speaks in an incomprehensibly strange language. The women in the episode also reside in a house where robots reconstruct a lost limb, lipstick is laser-applied, and the kitchen has a food dispenser that serves Lonely Lady Lasagna and Dateless Desert for One (it comes in “sorrow” flavor). Even the beloved theme music has a boppy electronic makeover, but the laugh track is still present. The character designs for the pilot were produced by his brother Bryan Hollingsworth.

Since Turner Networks’ original programming division was shuttered by Warner Bros. Discovery, TBS had expressed interest in the show. According to Hollingsworth, Golden Girls 3033 has garnered network interest, but his ideal scenario would be to see it on a streaming service like Disney+ or Hulu.
