The scary trailer for The Damned is here, and it sets the tone for a scary story starring Odessa Young and Joe Cole. The story takes place in a harsh 19th-century fishing village and is about a local widow named Eva (Young) who has to make a life-changing decision when a shipwreck threatens the safety of her small, isolated community. When the survivors show up, – Eva and her neighbors have to decide whether to help the crew that got stuck or take care of their own resources,-, which are running out. As the days go by, the islanders’ fears about survival grow, and a dark sense of punishment starts to haunt them.
Some of Odessa Young’s most famous roles were in Mothering Sunday and The Staircase. As Eva, she has a strong presence that makes you feel the weight of hard choices. Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders), who plays Daniel, is also from the island. The cast also includes Rory McCann (Game of Thrones), Siobhan Finneran (Downton Abbey), and Turlough Convery (Ready Player One). They all bring more depth to this sad coastal world.
The Damned is directed by Thordur Palsson, and Jamie Hannigan wrote the script. The story is full of fear and suspense as it deals with guilt and survival. This project, which was produced by Conor Barry and Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson, looks like it will be a scary mix of psychological horror and survival drama. It will be released in theaters for the first time on January 3, 2025 and will take viewers to a harsh winter coast where hope and horror clash.
If you’re a fan of historical horror with a twist of survival drama, The Damned is a film to look out for this winter.
