This holiday adventure from Hallmark, The Christmas Quest, was directed by Dustin Rikert and written by Andrew Gernhard, Marcy Holland and Rikert himself. Lacey Chabert, who plays an archaeologist, and Kristopher Polaha, who plays her ex-husband, go to Iceland to look for the legendary Treasure of the Yule Lads. The movie is great for the holidays because it has both Christmas spirit and an exciting Treasure Hunt. But where did this fun adventure come to life? The answer lies in Iceland’s beautiful landscapes and important cultural sites.
The Christmas Quest: Filming Locations in Iceland—A Beautiful Winter Place
The whole movie “The Christmas Quest” was shot in Iceland. There was principal photography from early April 2024 to April 17, 2024, which is just a few weeks. Here are some of the most interesting places where the movie was shot that made it magical:
Reykjavík
The city of Reykjavík in Iceland, which is the country’s capital, was used for many scenes. Scenes were filmed on Skólavörðustígur 10, 101 Reykjavík, a beautiful street close to famous sights like Hallgrímskirkja. This famous Lutheran church, with its stunning architecture inspired by volcanoes and wide views of the city, gives the story a fun and exciting background.
Perlan Museum in Reykjavík
The Perlan Museum is another well-known place. It is a dome-shaped building with hands-on displays about Icelandic nature and culture. The Ice Cave and simulated aurora borealis exhibits at the museum, which were shown in the movie, add to the sense of wonder and discovery. Its rooftop terrace, which has a great view of Reykjavík, is a beautiful place to be.
Haifoss Waterfall
Another must-see is the Haifoss Waterfall in southern Iceland, which is famous for its beautiful falls and peaceful atmosphere. With its steep cliffs and lush greenery, this beautiful spot fit the exciting mood of the treasure hunt perfectly. The rough beauty of the waterfall goes well with the scary parts of the movie.
How Lacey Chabert and Kristoffer Polaha Made Movies in Iceland
Lacey Chabert said that filming in Iceland for her ’15th Hallmark Christmas movie’ was a “chance of a lifetime.” She talked about how beautiful and different the culture was in the country and how that made the project even more special. Kristoffer Polaha agreed with her and said that they had filmed behind waterfalls, in lava caves and even on a glacier.
“It’s so beautiful. The place was stunning, and the people were amazing” Polaha said. “The culture is unique, and it added so much authenticity to the story.”
