Stephen Herek directed and Hailey DeDominicis wrote the upcoming Netflix romantic comedy Our Little Secret. It’s a holiday story full of charm, drama, and holiday chaos. The movie, which stars Lindsay Lohan, Ian Harding, Kristin Chenoweth, Tim Meadows, and many more great actors, looks like it will be full of heartfelt laughs and relatable moments just in time for the holidays.
At its core, Our Little Secret is a story about reunions that happen out of the blue and the problems they cause. Avery, played by Lindsay Lohan, is spending Christmas with her boyfriend Cameron’s (Jon Rudnitsky) family when she finds out that her ex-boyfriend Logan (Ian Harding) is also there. There are a lot of funny and touching moments as the two deal with their secret past relationship while dealing with holiday traditions, family expectations, and their own insecurities.
Our Little Secret Filming Location
Most of Our Little Secret was shot in and around Atlanta, Georgia, from early January to late February 2024. During the main filming of the movie, sound stageswere used a lot to give the cast and crew a controlled and immersive environment.
Lindsay Lohan described the unique experience of working on a sound stage:
“It creates such a different atmosphere of structure and getting to know people. It becomes your little family and your little world there.”
The Northside United Methodist Church in Atlanta was the site of many important on-location scenes. It was a charming setting for many of the movie’s most important scenes. The show also went to Decatur Square in the nearby city of Decatur in February 2024. A beautiful square and several nearby businesses were turned into a holiday wonderland for the movie.
When Lohan talked about the shoot, she talked about how much she loved the cast and crew and how they became like family during filming:
“The crew and everyone that was a part of the film were just such a joy to work with. It becomes like a family there, and I feel lucky to have that.”
Our Little Secret was able to capture both the holiday spirit and real human connections by using Atlanta’s lively settings and creating a close-knit atmosphere on set.
Our Little Secret Movie Plot
At the beginning of the movie, Avery, a successful professional who always gets what she wants, goes to his family’s fancy estate for Christmas with Cameron. When it comes to his family, Avery really wants to please his perfectionist mother Erica (Kristin Chenoweth), who is known for being rude and hard to please.
When Avery gets there, her carefully planned vacation goes awry when she finds out that Logan, her ex-boyfriend, is seeing Cameron’s sister Cassie. Logan and Avery broke up ten years ago when she moved to London to get her dream job. It wasn’t a happy ending. Their sudden reunion brings up old feelings, but they both decide to keep their pasts a secret so as not to mess up their new relationships.
As Avery and Logan try to stay out of trouble, the movie’s comedic tone rises. As they try to keep up the act, they run into more and more funny situations, like awkward run-ins during gift exchanges and accidents involving a naughty family dog. A funny scene that stands out happens at a family church service when Avery has to make up a Nativity story while mixing Kool & The Gang’s “Celebration.”
As secrets come to light, the family is thrown into chaos. Cassie and Cameron find out the truth about Avery and Logan’s past, which causes a big fight at Christmas dinner. Erica’s harsh criticism of everyone’s actions raises the tension, but when a subplot about her mother’s dementia comes up, it shows how weak she is, giving the story more emotional depth.
In the end, Our Little Secret brings all of its characters together for a touching ending. When Avery and Logan talk about their feelings, they realize they are still in love. At the same time, Erica learns to loosen up on her strict expectations, which makes the family relationship more open and caring.
Fans can’t wait for the movie to come out, and its holiday setting, funny turns, and touching moments make it clear that it will be a great addition to Netflix‘s holiday movie selection.
