Monster, the Netflix series, will feature Charlie Hunnam as the psychopathic killer Ed Gein in its third season. This revelation was made by the series co-creator Ryan Murphy during a promotional event in Los Angeles for the second season of Monster, which is based on the true story of the Menendez brothers and the murder of their parents. Like seasons before it, including the highly praised portrayal of Jeffrey Dahmer in season one, the series goes further into the psyche of America’s most infamous criminals.

The “Butcher of Plainfield”, Ed Gein was another psychopath who’s misdeeds were discovered in the 1950s. Born in Wisconsin, Gein not only claimed to have killed many people but also said that he dug up bodies of victims from the grave, and made furniture, clothing, and other items from the bones and skin of the dead. His strange and creepy behaviour led to the creation of some of the scariest characters in movie history – Norman Bates from Psycho and Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs.

By casting Hunnam as Gein, the producers decided to turn the page in the actor’s career, who is mainly famous for his part in the FX series Sons of Anarchy. Hunnam has been diversifying his television work, his next big project is set to be in Amazon’s Criminal. His role as Ed Gein will therefore be a complete contrast from his past roles, and this will be a clear indication that he is capable of portraying the evil in people.

Hunnam has been active in the acting career, and the following is his record. Beyond Sons of Anarchy, he recently starred in the Apple TV+ series Shantaram, based on the novel of the same name, and has a diverse array of film credits, including Pacific Rim, The Gentlemen, and The Lost City of Z. In December, Hunnam will appear in Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire.

Evan Peters played Jeffrey Dahmer in the first season of Monster, which went on to become one of Netflix’s biggest blockbusters and win multiple accolades, including a Golden Globe for Peters and an Emmy for Niecy Nash. The series has gripped viewers with its dark and frequently unsettling examination of real-life murders, and Hunnam’s portrayal of Ed Gein is anticipated to add to the anthology’s frightening legacy.

On September 19, Monster’s second season—which centers on Lyle and Erik Menendez—will debut on Netflix. Alongside Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny in the ensemble cast are Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch, who play the notorious brothers. Co-creators and executive producers Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan continue to direct the anthology.
