Many people know Sir Elton John as the musician who wrote classic hits like Candle in the Wind—Rocket Man and Your Song. He has been famous all over the world for decades not just for his music— but also for his flashy style. At age 77, Elton is still a well-liked figure in the entertainment business, and his strength and drive have inspired millions. However, fans are worried about his health after hearing recent news, especially about his eyesight.
What Happened to Elton John’s Eye? Explained
Elton John got a bad infection in the south of France in July. For the past four months, he hasn’t been able to see out of his right eye. The infection also hurt his left eye, which was already in bad shape, which made his daily life very hard. In an interview on Good Morning America, the musician said that his limited vision has made it hard for him to keep working on his projects, such as a much-anticipated new album with Bernie Taupin, who has been working with him for a long time.
He shared, “I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection… My left eye is not the greatest either.” Elton candidly described his frustration, saying, “I can’t see anything. I can’t read anything. I can’t watch anything.”
Elton said that his health problem has made him feel “stuck” because he has trouble with everyday things and recording music. But he said— “There’s hope and encouragement that it will be okay,” even though he made it clear that recovery has been slow.
Elton John has taken action to deal with the problem by getting treatment and focusing on getting his sight back. He let his fans know about the infection on Instagram in September— calling it “severe” but saying that he was “healing.” Even though progress has been slow— he is still hopeful and says that getting his sight back will take time.
Even with these problems, Elton continues to inspire people to be strong. A new Disney+ documentary called Elton John: Never Too Late is getting a lot of attention, and he even performed with Dua Lipa at the Royal Albert Hall. In recent interviews, he talked about how thankful he was for the help of his family, especially his husband David Furnish and their two young sons, —Zachary and Elijah.
