Amazon has released a spooky trailer for Naomi Watts’ psychological thriller “Goodnight Mommy.” A remake of the same-titled 2014 Austrian film, features Naomi Watts in the lead role. Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, who also act as executive producers on the American adaptation, were responsible for directing the original movie. It had its international premiere at the Venice Film Festival in 2014 and went on to win praise from critics around for its sinister atmosphere and complex plot. Although the plot of the Prime Video version appears to be identical to that of the original, the trailer hints that there may be some fresh turns along the road. It will make its global debut on Friday, September 16.
Watts plays the titular mother in the film, who returns home from a recent cosmetic procedure with her face bandaged. Elias and Lucas, her identical twin sons (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti), quickly express concern over their mother’s peculiar actions.
The mother starts acting very strangely, as seen in the teaser (see it below), assigning unusual new household duties, smoking in the toilet, and destroying her children’s artwork—things a devoted mother would never do. The two boys start to wonder if the woman behind the gauze is indeed their mother as her conduct becomes more bizarre and ominous.
The movie also features the Crovetti twins and Watts in addition to Peter Hermann (Younger). It was written by Kyle Warren and directed by Matt Sobel. The movie’s producers were V.J. Guibal, Nicolas Brigaud-Robert, Joshua Astrachan, and David Kaplan; other executive producers included Watts, Sobel, Warren, Derrick Tseng, Sébastien Beffa, and François Yon.
Goodnight Mommy will release on Friday, September 16, on Prime Video
