In Episode 4 of The Penguin, called “Cent’anni,” we meet Magpie, a new character from the world of DC Comics. Magpie, who is played by Marié Botha, is an important part of Sofia Falcone’s (Cristin Milioti) journey as she faces the horrible things in Arkham Asylum.
Who is Magpie??
Magpie, whose real name was Margaret Pye, is a less well-known bad guy from the world of DC comics. For the first time, she was in The Man of Steel comic in 1986, where she was a museum curator who started taking jewelry. Her appearance as Poison Ivy’s cellmate in Arkham Asylum was continued in subsequent comics. Additionally, Magpie’s figure has been seen in several Batman stories, such as Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and Suicide Squad. But we meet a different version of this bad guy in The Penguin.
Magpie is a busy and strange prisoner at Arkham Asylum in The Penguin stories. She is introduced as Sofia Falcone’s next-door cellmate. She seems very interested in Sofia’s fame as the alleged “Hangman” killer, a crime that Sofia’s own father, Carmine Falcone, set her up for. Magpie tries to make friends with Sofia because it wants to be with someone. But Sofia is very upset about what’s going on and finally loses her temper.
Magpie’s annoying and constant efforts to make friends with Sofia ended in her sad death. Sofia’s sadness and anger grow as she learns that she will never get a fair hearing and will have to stay in Arkham forever. During a fight in the canteen, Sofia kills Magpie by hitting her so hard with a tray. Sofia turns into the killer her father set her up to be at this point, setting the tone for her dark future.
How the Magpie Helped Sofia on Her Journey Magpie’s personality changes Sofia in a big way. At first, she’s an unwanted link in Arkham but when Sofia kills Magpie, it marks the beginning of her change from a victim to a bad guy. This scene shows how Sofia is pushed toward a darker road by the harsh environment of Arkham and the betrayal by her own family.
