Snowpiercer Season 4: The Fate of Admiral Milius

The episode begins at the flashback that shows Milius was previously a captain and the way he used to treat his subordinates and his decision to test on humans. A clear violation of orders and unfeeling planning led to his death and the perfect scenario for his demise was created.

The first scene of the episode is set three years before the events of the episode and continues to the present. Admiral Milius (Clark Gregg) is presented which doing the preparation for his day and at the same time speaking out his mind. Admiral Kari Chang (Sumalee Montano) scolds him for coming up with an idea of using people as an antidote against the Freeze. For this, Milius is discharged of his post and instructed to return to his cabin.

The ultimate act of his treachery takes a shocking turn when he murders his own wife, Linda, and fakes the kidnapped Chang’s rank to become the leader of the community. Milius watches helplessly from the sidelines as his wife, Linda (Sarah Edmondson), betrays him and shares all of his confidences with Chang. This is because Milius discerns that Linda has trammeled on him, thus reaching the decision to take action. He let off a toxic gas on Level 3, a floor that is left empty. This leads to deaths of the characters such as Linda but Chang survives. During the climax scene, Milius locks all the doors of the floor so that the situation does not get out of hand.

Having personally bested Chang, Milius takes Chang’s admiral stars and assumes her place. This act clearly indicates that he has continued his transformation to a more sinister and selfish individual who only craves for power.

That is why in the present day Milius is seen interacting Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly).  However, Melanie has some doubts about Gemini’s safety and provides doubts concerning the data and the impact of Gemini to the atmosphere. Milius calms her down and say that Snowpiercer is only a few hours away and ask her to take the data to Nima in a hurry.

Milius is depicted as telling Nima to hold Melanie if need be in order for the launch go on as planned. He also shows his intention to deceive Melanie regarding the security of Gemini, while ignoring the risks.

While Milius’s men head to Level 3, Layton and Wilford plan how to fight them off. Milius being the head of the crew orders them to capture Level 3 and ensure that nobody comes in. Wilford employs a disruptive device to neutralise Milius’s men, this facilitates the escape by Layton and Wilford.

Finally, Milius leads Joseph Wilford to one of the lowest level of the silo and when it gets extremely cold, Milius proceeds to put on a snowsuit. However, Wilford, having used a transfusion to become immune to the cold, turns the situation around. Wilford takes out the breathing mask from Milius’s face thus leaving him vulnerable to the extreme cold weather. As Milius struggles to breathe and stay warm, he eventually succumbs to the freezing temperatures and dies from hypothermia. His demise puts an end to his reign of terror and tips the scales, making his death a pivotal moment in the series.
