In this dramatic episode called “Hundred-Year Marathon”, we can realize that the main character Jason Hayes portrayed by David Boreanaz faces the problem of amateur and professional life as a SEAL. His son, Mikey, has a serious dilemma when he breaks down under the pressure of an injury, by mixing a street drug containing Tranc. In the event when the boys launch a dangerous stunt which becomes a near-death experience for Mikey, Jason feels really guilty for not being attentive enough to the boy’s suffering even though he is trying to do everything right to assist him. This event may serve to deepen Jason’s attachment to his family but it only drives him back into the warfront, which is evidently an unhealthy lifestyle.
At the same time, Omar gets his first mission as Bravo 2 but as it is seen he has some doubts about himself. Such a character easily succumbs to pressure that comes from the team, especially his friend, Sonny Quinn (A. J. Buckley) when making the right decision on the issues at hand. Omar’s indecisiveness and doubts are expressed when he is not prepared to become the leader of the group and though he accepts his actions, it is still obvious that the young man does not fully believe in himself and trust his decisions.
This is the case because Drew, who has slowly been working his way into the team’s trust, becomes a pivotal character in this episode. His friendship with Sonny improves, and he advises Omar during the mission in a wise manner. , Drew’s background is still pretty blurry, but one can see that he is a good leader. This is further confirmed by the recent speculations that at some point of time, Drew can be the Bravo 1, especially seeing that Jason’s position in the team is unknown.
The very mission serves as a demonstration of the team’s capabilities as they accomplish their goal, thus illustrating their idea of the integrated deterrence. Still, the argument in favor of Bravo continues, but Lisa, who has been an advocate of the team, continues to worry about its fate. More so, with the uncertainty of Bravo’s position as a member of the team, the team may soon undergo a huge transformation. This could especially be seen in Jason, whose flexibility in life and in a field is now presenting signs of reaching their breaking point.
As the team strives to make it through the episodes I am left wondering what is going to happen to Bravo and Jason in the next episodes of the season.
