NCIS: Origins Season 1 Episode 6 Recap: “Incognito” – Lala’s Breaking Point

Date:

Tonight’s exciting episode of NCIS: Origins is called “Incognito” and it takes us back to the early days of a familiar face—Gibbs—and gives us more information about the life of Special Agent Lala Dominguez, who is brave and has a mysterious past. This story is told by Gibbs (Austin Stowell), who is betrayed, keeps secrets, and deals with the emotional problems that come with being an undercover agent.

NCIS: Origins Season 1 Episode 6 Recap

At the beginning of the episode, Lala (Mariel Molino) is having trouble figuring out her place on the team after Franks (Kyle Schmid) calls her a “workplace distraction,” which is a bad thing. The comment hurts, and even though Lala brushes it off, she feels trapped by judgments and expectations. Gibbs becomes a sounding board for her, and this moment is key to understanding how hard it is for her to be in a place where men are the majority.

At the same time, Lala goes on a girls’ night out with her friends Vera (Diany Rodriguez) and Mary Jo (Tyla Abercrombie) to celebrate Vera’s success in getting a new profiling program approved. But when Lala lets down her guard with a stranger, a fun outing quickly turns into a tricky night. She kisses him and briefly forgets about her daily life, but the next morning when she is late to a crime scene, she feels bad about what she did and feels guilty.

At the scene, Lala and her team are in charge of looking into why Navy Petty Officer Greg Piccolo is thought to have killed himself. But this case isn’t what it seems to be; the medical examiner quickly figures out that it was a murder. Lala tries to concentrate on her work, but her thoughts are still on what she did the night before. Franks notices that she seems out of sorts and asks her a lot of questions, but she brushes them off, hiding how upset she really is.

The case takes a new turn when the team learns that Greg may have been involved in a breach of classified information. Greg’s background is looked into by Lala and Gibbs, who find that he was guarding a high-security room with sensitive military files. As time runs out, Franks asks SAC Wheeler (Patrick Fischler) and his FBI contact about the person he thinks bought the stolen information. A young Tobias Fornell (Lucas Dixon), who is a memorable nod to longtime NCIS fans, shows up and helps them with their spy hunt.

When Gibbs is sent undercover to pretend to be the buyer, things really get interesting. For his safety, Lala is brought along as his date in a high-stakes, fancy situation. She has been a guide for him for years. There are some problems with the mission, like when Gibbs’ real dentist shows up out of the blue in the same bar and threatens to blow their cover. Lala jumps in and quickly embraces and touches them to draw attention away from them.

Things get dangerous when they meet the seller. Gibbs and Lala didn’t know it, but their SWAT backup had been called away on another mission, leaving them to handle things on their own. Tensions rise as the seller and his men become more wary of the “light” money in Gibbs’ briefcase. Just in time, Lala helps Gibbs turn the tables. She has a hidden gun and a knife that she sneaked to him. The way they work together and think quickly to beat the seller and his goons is amazing.

After the incident, Lala hears her male coworkers in the locker room making rude comments about her covert outfit. She always tries to shield herself with her own jokes, but it’s clear that the “box” she’s in at work and in her personal life is making her feel suffocated. Lala feels bad about her late-night mistake, so she tells her boyfriend about it when she gets home. This is a turning point for her character.

“Incognito” is a deep dive into the personal and professional barriers Lala faces through Gibbs’ narration. It shows fans a glimpse of her character’s strength and resilience, which makes her unforgettable.
