After waiting for so long, the finale of EVIL has finally been served, with fans getting their fix of supernatural and emotional drama. EVIL Season 4, Episode 14, titled “Fear of the End,” ties up several key storylines, answering two of the most significant questions: Can The 60 be stopped, and what happens to our beloved assessors now that the church closed them? Now it is high time to preview each stage of the episode and investigate each moment in detail.
‘Evil’ Season 4 Episode 14 Recap
At the start of the episode, the three leading characters, Kristen played by Katja Herbers, David, played by Mike Colter, and Ben, played by Aasif Manthvi are coming-to-terms with the absence of ‘assessor work’ from their lives. Kristen and Ben changed a lot over thecourse of the show: Kristen turned the garage into the new office and is seeing the patient there and Ben got a soft tech job telling no more tinfoil hat days of supernatural investigation. But there are still things that leave – they create discomfort and feelings of anxiety. In Ben’s new sterile cubicle, a scratched message in his drawer reads: End credits appear with the word “RUN,” suggesting that maybe everything is not as ‘normal’ as it appears to be. At the same time, David gets another visit from Demon Kristen (his temptress self-demon), whom he coldly turns away even though she hugs him tightly. But these are just the normal fronts that are perhaps hiding from view the actual threat of the The 60 group.
David goes to his secret team where he is informed that they are on the verge of busting The 60. But of course this does not last long as he gets wind of the fact that Leland (Michael Emerson), their nemesis, is about to go for one of the assessor. With that, David goes a sourcing on his speeding bike to save his friends.
THE AMBUSH OF LELAND AND THE BURNING OF THE SECRETS
As expected from David’s information, Leland has gone into action – disguised as a patient at Kristen’s garage office. Kristen, who is very smart and cannot be deceived decides to taze him several times and he falls unconscious. After the encounter, David and Ben show up at her home, where they decide to take drastic measures to protect their past: they incinerate all their notes for assessor programmes. This is a symbolic act done over what may be a backyard bonfire and is replete with emotion and introspection. While watching the dancing flames, the three explain how they have evolved through working together along the team. Kristen says that she would have never thought that such relationships could help her value other people’s knowledge even more, David in turn shares that the only thing he received from these relations is friendship, which he never had before. It does not require a genius to tell that these characters have undergone through a rigorous transformation provoking the empathetic feeling of compassion from the audience.
VR NIGHTMARES AND A CREEPY GAME…
This episode takes a cliched spooky twist when Lynn, one of Kristen’s daughters, finds a pair of old goggles in a closet. They put them on, joining a game called the Mother Midnight through which people’s destinies are shown. Accidents do not occur but rather one thing leads to the other, and this is brought out well when a rough hand grabs Lynn’s shoulder. The game turns sharply to show a realistic scene where Leland murders Kristen in front of the girls with an ax.
Waking up from their nap, the girls start screaming which worried their parents Kristen, Ben and David to rush into the house only to discover that they were safe but terrified. The adults realizing what the children went through also seize the VR goggles and put them on. Everyone of them is then drawn into their own individual horror which is based on their own individual phobia. For Ben, it is a rather tragic scenario in which his sister, Karima, is on her deathbed and is struggling with faith in Allah. In the case of Kristen, it is a dream where the authorities from Child Protective Services comes to take her children away because she is an unfit mother. For David it is a demonic hallucination in which the familiar demon, Henry Stick, planishes himself as a christ figure and begins ridiculing his faith.
At last they pull off the goggles; all turn pale, for they realise it was not just fun and games they had been doing. That also does not stop the VR countdown clock from counting down and elicit even more questions in return.
It becomes worst when a large group of people all wearing the same VR goggles converge at Kristen’s home. This people have been drawn there by the game which located her house with the help of Demon Finder application that the Kristen’s daughters had used earlier. A man even bursts into the house to prevent his daughter’s predicted death since reaching the ‘heart of the house’ will save her The team understands that the game and the app have been used to hack into people’s heads and inject hopelessness into them. It’s all linked to DF Industries and the growing encroachment of The 60.
Evil Season 4 Episode 14 Recap: THE BLACK MASS
During this confusion, Leland and his demonic partner, Stick, plan the Black Mass at an unused church performing an excommunication ritual . When David realises this too, he goes to Father Di Vita and tells him that they’ve been set up. The Vatican’s special forces break into the church, only to discover that it was a feint. A young actress chained to the altar hands them a note that reads, “Meet the evil coming to New York: You. ” Poisonous smoke rises in the church, some members of the team are killed, and David has one final realization: The 60 are still very much alive, and more dangerous than ever before.
Even in the increasing night, David comes up with a daring suggestion to Ben and Kristen ‘ Why not, we begin the assessor program again but in Rome? Kristen, however, pauses them arguing that she is a mother of five children. Ben who is now making a lot more money though is also reluctant. David tries to talk to Kristen and convinces her to change her mind but she does not accept. Kristen, on the other hand, is torn on that night. She logs into a doppelgänger app and receives a cryptic message: “A life unconquered is a life unlived.”
‘Evil’ Season 4 Episode 14: Ending Explained!
One of the major scenes of the episode is when Leland enters Kristen’s house through a hidden passage in the basement. He climbs up the stairs with a dagger and intends to kill her. Well, Kristen is somewhat wiser than that. She attacks him risking hailing a cord and chocking him with it. At this point she is about to kill him and suddenly David and Ben barge into the scene telling her to let go. The final confrontation ends with Leland neutralized, but the implications of the ’60s influence remain.
In the last scene from Evil, Leland didn’t die, indeed, Kristen seems to be tired, she probably knows Leland will come back one day. Ben and David agree to solve it their way. They kidnap Leland and take him to this isolated cabin to turn him into one of their minions and put Leland inside a demonic closet that looks small from the outside, but is very large; similar to the TARDIS in Doctor Who. The most endearing moment here is when a spirited young nun, Fenna, pushes Kristen in laughter as David does the farewell hug on Sister Andrea.
Then- some- time later Kristen and her daughters are in Italy. They make a video call to Ben and, while he is packing his things, they discuss that Ben will come to visit them. After the call, Kristen allows her daughters to go home and stares at her baby named Timothy. His eyes become violently white and demonic and he gives a grin revealing blood fiendish like sharp teeth. David arrives and Kristen pretends to be okay when he asks her if anything is wrong, she then hands Timothy a pacifier to make him stop crying. They then stroll along Vatican City together.
