Chicago Fire Season 13: Meet the New Chief at Firehouse 51: In the first episode of Season 13 of Chicago Fire, a new Chief named Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) took over at Firehouse 51. This was a big change. Many people were curious to see how the firehouse would act after those cliff hangers in the twelfth season with the change in leadership.
The group doesn’t really get excited when Pascal walks in. It’s clear that there’s some tension between Pascal and Herrmann when they first meet. Herrmann missed his chance to take the Captain’s test and possibly become Captain himself. But Pascal tells him that he doesn’t feel bad about it, and they part ways on good terms—for now.
He also makes it clear that he respects former Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) a lot, but he’s not here to take his place. As he plans to lead in his own way, we see a glimpse of his style at work during a rescue mission. Severide and Herrmann respect Pascal because he doesn’t back down from danger and often does so to save lives.
But Pascal comes to the firehouse with some new, maybe even strange, ideas. As an example, he makes it a rule that everyone must put their phones away at meals so that people can talk to each other. It’s a small but important change that shows he wants to make things different at Crew 51.
The fact that Pascal wants a debriefing after every call, not just written notes, is one of his more controversial moves. Kidd does not like this because she thinks Pascal is stepping on her toes. Severide goes first for instance and this goes part way towards in making things a little better. Nevertheless, Pascal and Kidd are expected to keep on raging through the rest of the season.
To further compound the intrigue the backstory of Pascal has not been revealed, but it involves Miami in some way. We also notice that Pascal is at home having marital issues with his wife Monica played by KaDee Strickland, which created a more personal story for him.
Hence, there is no doubt that Dom Pascal will turn up the heat this season, and supporters are eager to find out how he will alter things in Firehouse 51.
Chicago Fire airs on NBC every Wednesday at 9 p.m. and streams on Peacock.
