There was a lot of suspense in the seventh episode of Based on a True Story Season 2.Titled “Shotgun Wedding,” it saw Ava and Nathan attempting to escape their growing entanglement in the true-crime world. Their obsession with Ava had turned into a dangerous addiction, and Matt’s bad past came back to haunt them. As the couple tried to leave everything behind, unknown forces closed in on them— making it impossible for them to leave. What happened in Episode 7 was very exciting and set the stage for the finale’s dramatic and deadly ending.
Based on a True Story Season 2 Episode 8 : “This Week’s Guest” – Recap
In the final episode of Season 2, “This Week’s Guest,” Ava and Nathan are caught in a dangerous game set up by Lake, who is the sister of Chloe Lake, the girl whose murder started the whole story in Season 1. At the same time, Matt and Tory are running away from the police and having to deal with the results of their actions.
The chaos starts with Ava’s previous mistake while investigating. She got the copycat killer’s code wrong, which led to a bad video post on her Murder Bunny account. Because of a bug in her face filter, this mistake showed who she was. It became public where she was online, so Ava and Nathan had to run away and leave their son Jack with Serena to keep him safe.
The Lipinski sisters cornered the couple as they ran for their lives, making Ava and Nathan talk about their experience with the— Westside Ripper on their podcast or face legal consequences. When Lake cut off the recording and revealed herself as the copycat killer, the podcast took a scary turn. Her reason? A grudge against people who make money off of real crimes, like Ava and Nathan, who turned Chloe’s story into a business instead of going after justice for her.
Chloe Lake’s Dangerous Plans
Lake turned the podcast into a weird game show and made Ava and Nathan answer questions about killers. Ava cleverly used the questioning to find out what Lake really wanted: she wanted to take back her sister Chloe’s story, which had been reduced to a victim role in true-crime books. There was also anger in Lake toward Matt— Ava and Nathan, who had used these tragedies to make money.
Matt got to Olivia’s grave just in time to save Ava and Nathan. He had been reading Lake’s coded messages there. During the tense standoff, Nathan got away and knocked Lake out, which seemed to end the threat.
A Shocking Turn of Events
Just as he felt calmer, Matt made a shocking choice. He promised to turn himself in to the police, but instead he ran away with Lake unconscious, leaving Ava and Nathan to handle the situation. Evidence from Olivia’s murder scene, Nathan’s locker, and the deaths of the Lipinski sisters was used to show that Nathan was the killer who copied Olivia. He was arrested and Ava had to deal with their broken lives on her own.
At the same time, Tory, Matt’s partner—was having her own problems. She told the police about Matt’s son Ollie and hoped they would keep him safe. Tory herself disappeared, probably because she needed to be alone to deal with the trauma of killing Olivia.
Based on a True Story Season 2 Episode 8: Ending
At the end of the season, Matt and Lake are in a place that hasn’t been revealed. Matt seems set on studying Lake’s mind, maybe to figure out how she was able to trick him. It is still unclear whether he wants to work with her or kill her.
Back at home, Ava has to clean up after the crime, while Nathan is wrongly accused of being the killer who copied the crime. The finale ends in a haunting way, leaving viewers with unanswered questions and a teasing hint about Season 3.
What’s Next for the Series?
The ending has just the right amount of suspense and psychological intrigue to keep people watching until the very end. Will the crazy way Matt and Lake interact cause more trouble? Will Ava be able to show that Nathan is not guilty, or will she lose everything? Finally, where has Tory been?
