We saw Grace take a deadly stand against her husband John Paul in the season finale. It turned out that John Paul (JP) Williams (Claes Bang) had abused and tormented the Garvey sisters for years. After hearing him horrifyingly admit that he had abused Eva (Sharon Horgan) and caused her to miscarry, Grace lost it and killed him by suffocating him with his own pajamas. She set up the scene to look like an accident with the help of her neighbor Roger. It looked like he died when his scarf got caught in an ATV axle. Matt, the life insurance agent, found out the truth, but he let the sisters go free in exchange for them agreeing not to get the money from the insurance. The Garveys thought the worst was over, so they moved on.
Bad Sisters Season 2 Episode 1 Recap
The second season starts with a dark twist: we see a flash-forward of the Garvey sisters doing something that looks a lot like something they’ve done before. When they get to the cliffs and open the trunk of their car, they are startled to see signs of life inside. Their plans to get rid of whatever or whoever they are getting rid of are going wrong. Before the show goes back to the present, this scary flash-forward leaves us with a lot of questions.
The sisters are living new lives now that John Paul has been dead for two years. They are all in different stages of moving on. Eva has changed her lifestyle to be healthier and even starts jogging with a “menopause coach.” Ursula has also separated from her husband. A couple named Bibi and her wife are trying to have another child. Meanwhile, Becka is still dealing with the trauma and can hardly stay calm at Grace’s wedding to Ian, who seems like a good person.
A feeling of dread hangs over Grace’s wedding day, which should be a happy event. Ian (Owen McDonnell), her new husband, gives a moving speech in which he promises to love her and take care of her daughter Blánaid. But there is a dark cloud over the story because Roger, Grace’s lonely neighbor who helped her get rid of John Paul’s body, is still troubled by the secrets they shared.
Watching Grace move on with her life makes him feel even more alone and his sister Angelica Muldoon (Fiona Shaw), quickly picks up on how upset he is. Because of how smart she is, Angelica could be a pain for the sisters as the season goes on.
At the same time, a new problem comes up when another horrible reminder of John Paul’s life is found. The frozen body of John Paul’s father is found in the pond after being hidden. Detective Fergal Loftus (Barry Ward) initially didn’t want to look into John Paul’s case again, but this discovery makes him do it. It also brings Thomas, the insurance agent, back into the picture. There is also a new character named Houlihan. He is a young detective who pays close attention to details and thinks the Garvey family has more secrets to hide.
As Grace tries to stay happy, memories of bad times come back to the surface. She still has nightmares and panic attacks when she wakes up, which are constant reminders of the time she was abused. Roger walks up to her and tells her he wants to finally tell the police the truth. This breaks her fragile sense of peace. Grace begs him to keep quiet because she wants to protect the life she’s built up. She is shaking with fear and guilt. Ian is supportive at first when she tells him about her past, but he starts to feel uncomfortable and starts to question the person he married. At the end of their tense conversation, Blánaid overhears and can tell her mother is upset.
At the end of the season premiere, the Garvey sisters are once again on the verge of something bad happening. Even though their new lives looked good at first, new dangers and old sins quickly cast a shadow over them.
