Netflix‘s “Our Little Secret” is the third movie in Lindsay Lohan‘s holiday movie deal with the company. The romantic comedy was written by Hailey DeDominicis and directed by Stephen Herek. It stars Lindsay Lohan, Ian Harding, Kristin Chenoweth, Jon Rudnitsky, and Tim Meadows, among others. The movie is about two ex-lovers who have to get back together in a very awkward situation. It promises a complicated web of love, misunderstandings, and holiday cheer.
Our Little Secret Movie Story:
Avery, played by Lindsay Lohan, is a polished and driven professional who spends Christmas at the home of her boyfriend Cameron, played by Jon Rudnitsky. In order to improve her relationship with Cameron and win over his perfectionist mother, Erica (Kristin Chenoweth), she plans to use the event. But things take a strange turn when Avery meets Cassie’s (Katie Baker), Cameron’s younger sister, new boyfriend and finds out that he is actually her ex-boyfriend Logan (Ian Harding).
Avery and Logan’s relationship has been through a lot. Ten years ago, they were best friends since childhood and fell deeply in love. But things got rough in their relationship when Avery decided to move to London to look for work, leaving Logan heartbroken. His impulsive public marriage proposal at her going-away party was turned down, and they didn’t talk to each other for ten years.
Now that Avery and Logan are back together by chance, they agree to keep their old relationship a secret so that it doesn’t mess up their current relationships or make Cameron’s family angry. This agreement starts a chain of events that turns what was supposed to be a calm holiday into a bunch of crazy mishaps.
From a mess up with a Secret Santa gift exchange to a cringe-worthy moment at church where Avery, who is high on THC gummies by accident, gives an odd speech that includes Kool & The Gang’s “Celebration,” the movie keeps adding more and more ridiculous situations. As these antics go on, tensions rise as Avery and Logan try to work out their feelings for each other.
The worst part of the family drama is when Erica finds out that her seemingly perfect family has been keeping a lot of secrets from her. An elderly relative’s dementia and the discovery of cheating add unexpected emotional weight to a story that is mostly funny. By Christmas morning, all the secrets have been revealed about Avery and Logan’s past, family betrayals, and personal insecurities. This leads to a heartfelt ending.
The Cast and Performances
The movie is held together by Lindsay Lohan and Ian Harding‘s subtle chemistry. Lohan plays Avery with a mix of charm and tense energy, while Harding plays Logan, who is more grounded. Kristin Chenoweth is great as Erica, the bossy mom whose sharp wit and over-the-top personality steal every scene she’s in. Supporting actors like Jon Rudnitsky and Katie Baker play their parts as silly parodies of rom-com tropes, which fits with the movie’s silly tone.
The Verdict
Even though Our Little Secret doesn’t change the way rom-coms are made, it has enough funny, awkward, and emotional moments to keep people interested. The story is mostly made up of over-the-top situations and common tropes, but it has a heartwarming message about love and family that makes it a good choice for holiday movies.
Fans of holiday romantic comedies will probably enjoy the movie for what it is: a light, fun watch that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Some people might find the humor too forced, or the pacing might not be even. The way Lohan plays the part in the holiday movie is another step in her career, giving her fans a mix of nostalgia and charm.
“Our Little Secret” has both romance and chaos wrapped up in Christmas lights for people who want them both. It’s not perfect, but it’s a good holiday movie.
