One of the biggest stars has joined the cast of the upcoming Irish wedding comedy Ditched. The movie is based on the best-selling book Bride Squad Runaway by Caroline Grace-Cassidy and Lisa C. Carey. Mary Elizabeth Ellis, who was in Red One, will play the lead role.
Lauren, a sassy and commitment-phobic sports reporter played by Ellis, is at the center of Ditched’s story. One of Lauren’s best friends is left at the altar, so she and two other close friends take a road trip through Ireland. The three haven’t talked in years because of all the other things going on in their lives, but a terrible event brings them back together: Ava’s fiancé, Simon, who wants to be a rock star, leaves her at the altar. The group decides to do something about it and sets out on a crazy and funny journey across the West of Ireland to find the groom who ran away.
Jade Jordan, who was in The Virtues, plays Ava, a girl who just lost her mother, and Amy de Bhrún, who was in Jason Bourne, plays Kate, a lawyer who is having a hard time balancing her busy job with the needs of her young family. In an adventure that will bring them closer than ever, they face personal and emotional problems together and get to know each other again.
The screenplay for Ditched is being turned into a movie by Grace-Cassidy and Carey. Pollyanna McIntosh, who directed The Walking Dead, is in charge of shooting. Vico Films will make the movie, and Cormac Fox and Colmán Mac Cionnaith of The Young Offenders will be the producers.
Filming will start in May, and scenes will be shot in Dublin and along the beautiful Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland. Grace-Cassidy was thrilled with the choice of actress and said, “We are over the moon to attach the magnificent Mary Elizabeth Ellis as Lauren.” Ditched is a movie about old friendships, especially between women in their 40s. We are so happy that Pollyanna McIntosh is in charge of this strong, female ship.
With Ellis added, the movie is sure to have a new, exciting energy, and viewers can look forward to a touching and funny look at friendship, life, and strange adventures.
