Prime Video Cross TV Show: Is Alex Cross Based on a Real Detective?

Date:

Prime Video has delved deep into the world of James Patterson‘s crime thrillers with Cross— a thrilling show that brings—Detective Alex Cross’s story to life in a new way. Cross is based on James Patterson’s long-running book series that began in 1993. It was created by Ben Watkins and introduces viewers to the interesting world of Alex Cross as he deals with personal problems and his job as a detective. In Cross Season 1, Aldis Hodge plays Alex, a man who is still dealing with the tragic death of his wife while on the hunt for a serial killer named Ed Ramsey. The show goes into detail about Alex’s skills as a detective and the tough emotional times he faces when he has to balance his family life with important investigations.

Is Alex Cross based on a real detective, though? Here’s everything you need to know about where this Prime Video main character came from in the story.

Is Alex Cross Based on a Real Detective?

Cross seems very real, but he’s actually a character from a story. Best-selling author Patterson made Alex Cross into a detective who has a deep understanding of how people think and feel, which helps him catch criminals. Patterson has written more than 30 books about Alex Cross since the first one came out in 1993. Fans of the book have seen this fictional detective on the big screen before, with Morgan Freeman and Tyler Perry playing him. The people who made the show took Patterson’s novels’ rich background and added to it by adding suspense, family life, and modern social problems.

In Cross, the story is set in the present day, which gives it a unique twist. But the show doesn’t stick closely to any one book plot; instead, it has its own storyline. Ben Watkins— who runs the show, says that this change let them explore modern issues while still staying true to Patterson’s character.

Even though Alex Cross is made up— his dedication and understanding of how people think are similar to things that real detectives might go through. Cross is very perceptive, which helps him during interrogations and gives him a special ability to guess what criminals will do. He’s a typical “thinking detective” which makes him likable to viewers because he solves cases with reason and compassion. This realism makes the battle of wits he has with the show’s main bad guy, Ed Ramsey (the Fanboy Killer), even more interesting. In this situation, Cross’s smarts and Ramsey’s sneaky psychological tricks work together to make a dangerous game between the detective and the criminal.

Cross also writes about more serious social issues like race, the difficulties of being a police officer and how losing a loved one can affect a career as a police officer. This gives—Alex’s character more depth. Even though he is made-up, these things about him that are based in reality make him seem real and like someone people can relate to.

Cross on Prime Video may not be based on a real detective but Alex Cross feels like a real person. Alex Cross is still a fascinating character in James Patterson’s books and in this new version. He is a detective who uses his intelligence and knowledge of human psychology to help those who need it most.
