Emilia Perez Movie Locations

Emelia Perez tells a gripping story that combines crime, drama, music and a twist that no one saw coming. The movie takes place in Mexico and is about Manitas, a feared drug cartel leader who decides to leave her life of crime and live as Emilia Perez, a transgender woman. Rita (Zoe Saldaña), a lawyer who is having a hard time, helps make this change possible. Everyone, though, is changed by Emilia’s journey, which is full of love, regret and trying to make up for past sins. Rosa Saldaña and Selena Gomez, who plays Emilia’s ex-wife Jessi, also star in the movie. Karla Sofía Gascón plays Manitas/Emilia Perez.

Where the movie Emilia Perez was shot?

Emilia Perez was mostly shot in France, even though it takes place in Mexico. The main filming took place in Paris, which has high-tech studios and skilled visual effects teams. In Île-de-France, filming for “Emilia Pérez” began in May 2023 and ended in July of that same year. The movie was filmed at Studios de Bry, which is in Bry-sur-Marne not far from Paris. This studio let the film’s creative team build detailed sets for clubs, Mexican streets, and other important locations in the story. There were also high-end bluescreen stages in the studio, which made it possible for visual effects to be added without any problems.

Emilia Perez used a lot of visual effects and well-thought-out sets to make the streets and environments of Mexico feel real. Paul Guilhaume, the cinematographer, chose a muted, dusty look instead of the typical yellow tones that are used to show Mexico. By making this choice, the director wanted to create a mood that was different from the usual sunny, bright image of Mexico in foreign films. Guilhaume said that they wanted to show a different side of Mexico by taking pictures on “gloomy days” to make the picture more realistic.

With just a few built-up storefronts and market props, the production team used VFX magic to make it look like a busy ‘Mexican Market’. Outdoor scenes and intense chase scenes were filmed entirely at Studios de Bry. For more than eight months, 70 VFX artists from MPC Paris worked on the backgrounds of the movie to make them come to life.

For a number of reasons, director Jacques Audiard chose to film Emilia Perez in France. Audiard liked that Studios De Bry had a controlled environment and good resources because he was used to working with French crews and the equipment there. France’s generous tax breaks, which include a tax rebate of up to 40% for productions that meet certain criteria, such as spending a lot on VFX, also helped the decision.

Paris has become a place where movies from all over the world are made. The city has been chosen for many global projects thanks to the France 2030 plan which includes spending money to make studios and sound stages bigger.

For Selena Gomez, playing Emilia Perez was a unique chance to connect with her heritage and improve her Spanish. She worked on both of these things with her father for more than a year to get ready for the role. Different languages, themes, and genres are used in this production from different cultures to tell a modern and unique story about identity and change.
