Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 11 Recap: “Life Sentence”
At the beginning of the episode, Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) is getting ready to charge Carlos Ramírez (Manny Perez) with gang membership. But things get interesting when one of the jurors says Erin tampered with the jury, which could hurt her career. The judge throws out the case and dismisses the jury. This leaves Erin open to being harmed while an investigation into what she did begins.
Eddie Janko-Reagan, played by Vanessa Ray, is dealing with a very sad case after finding a dead woman and her daughter Amelia hiding in the closet. Amelia doesn’t have any close family to care for her, so Eddie and her husband Jamie (Will Estes) overnight her. Eddie’s feelings grow deeper because of this event, which leads to a big conversation later in the episode.
Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg), who is in another scene, finds a dead body with Erin’s business card in their mouth. The person who was killed is Angel Cruz, a key witness in Erin’s case against Ramírez. It’s becoming clearer that Erin’s case is connected to something much bigger and more dangerous, which adds to the mystery.
As things get worse for Erin, she turns to her ex-husband Jack Boyle (Peter Hermann), who she didn’t expect to be an ally. Jack agrees to be her lawyer and as they work together— their old friendship comes back to the surface. Even though they have had problems in the past, they are close at times, showing Erin a softer side as she fights to clear her name.
On the other side of town, Archbishop Kevin Kearns (Stacy Keach) asks Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) to help with a murder case involving a killer who is about to be sent to Ohio to face the death penalty. This puts Reagan in a tough moral spot. Frank isn’t sure if it’s the right thing to do because he doesn’t want to save a murderer from being put to death.
The side story about Jamie Reagan shows us something touching about him as a person. Jamie is determined to get back his stolen car—which is very important to him because it used to belong to his late brother Joe. The way he feels about the car reminds him of his relationship with Joe. After a long search, Jamie decides to pass on the legacy by giving the car to Joe’s son.
Eddie’s friendship with Amelia helps find a major lead, which is the episode’s climax. Eddie and Danny figure out that — Ramírez is Amelia’s father after she draws a picture of a man with an Ace Double Treys tattoo. Danny quickly stops Ramírez from taking Amelia, and just in time, they are stopped at a heliport.
In the end, Jack makes a big step forward by showing that the juror who said Erin tampered with the evidence was forced to lie. It was because her family was being held hostage that she had to lie. This clears Erin’s name, and Deborah Mazar, who plays Queens D.A. Evaline Romano, backs off.
Frank finally decides what to do about the murderer and gets the governors of New York and Ohio to be lenient. Instead of being put to death, the man will serve two life sentences in a row. Frank’s power is once again at the center of a tough moral choice, which shows how important his job as commissioner is.
At the end of the episode, two important things happen: Jack Boyle is invited back to the Reagan family dinner, which could mean that he and Erin start dating again. Eddie tells Jamie something that will change her life: she wants to have a baby, which is a big step toward becoming a family.
