Daryl Dixon: The Book of Carol Season 2 Episode 3 Recap: Sylvie Dies

Date:

If the world is about to fall apart, the only things that are worth hanging on to are trust and survival. The stakes are higher than ever in the third episode of Daryl Dixon: The Book of Carol Season 2 as alliances start to fall apart and hope for those caught in a web of deceit—terror and ultimate power wanes. Carol’s primary motivation is her desire to be with Daryl (Norman Reedus) again, even as her quest to protect him grows more dangerous. But not everyone will survive, with old foes resurfacing and new ones emerging.

Daryl Dixon: The Book of Carol Season 2 Episode 3 Recap

The episode begins in the eerie silence of Paris, where Carol has entered the Pouvoir du Vivant, an organization under the mysterious leadership of Madame Marion Genet (Anne Charrier). Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) pretends to be a lost traveler in the hopes of using her disguise to find Daryl. However, it’s obvious that the Pouvoir are concealing something much worse from view. Carol starts revealing the sinister mysteries surrounding the fortress with the help of her new ally, Rèmy, and this leads them to a dismal realization.

Daryl is imprisoned in Normandy’s Nest in the meantime – where Laurent is being prepared for a lethal ceremony to demonstrate his purported immunity to the virus that has wiped all humanity by Losang — the charismatic leader of the Union de l’Espoir. Because of his infatuation with faith, Losang (Joel de la Fuente ) tests Laurent in a way that if Daryl doesn’t intervene quickly could determine the boy’s fate.

This episode begins with dangers facing Carol’s quest right away. She and Rèmy discover the unsettling truth of Madame Genet’s schemes within Maison Mère. They watch as a weird—glowing substance is injected into the inmates turning them into faster more aggressive walkers. These animals appear to be a part of Genet’s dystopian future, with their bloodshot veins and blackened pupils. Known as “Ampers,” they are made to be the ultimate fighters: deadly but under control.

Carol who has always been resilient, is not impressed by Genet’s scientific feats. As she watches the zombified test subjects rip at their bonds. she murmurs, “Just what the world needs.” However, Rèmy’s eyes are displaying all too much fear. He worries that since Julien, his spouse, vanished he would be the target of Genet’s experiments next. They are both running out of time to plot their escape.

Fall of Sylvie

Daryl Dixon The Book of Carol sylvie dies

Tension rises as Sylvie (Laïka Blanc-Francard), one of the few people who have stayed steadfastly devoted to Laurent— meets a horrible end across the spooky abbey walls in Normandy. Captured to stop her from undermining the Union’s perverse ritual, she attempts to alert the Nest to Laurent’s imminent danger. She tries to flee, but her attempt fails and she falls to her death from the top of the Nest. The depressing remark that Losang made about her faith “Her faith was weak,” only serves to highlight how icy and cunning his leadership was.

After Sylvie’s passing—an unsettling thing happens. Drunk and disoriented Laurent is led before the Union congregation—where he is expected to be bitten in front of the assembly by a zombie Sylvie—one of the same things she once battled against. This dreadful spectacle will either reaffirm or undermine the Union’s faith in Laurent’s immunity. But Daryl, who is hiding amid the throng, intervenes before the unimaginable occurs. Daryl, Isabelle (Clémence Poésy), and Fallou have a chance to flee with Laurent as one arrow launched into the mayhem tosses the situation into disarray.

When Carol overhears Codron, a battered former soldier talk about Daryl being captured at Mont-Saint-Michel, she feels even more compelled to find Daryl. Now that she knows this, she gets ready to travel to Normandy, but she’s by herself because Rémy decides to stay behind rather than leave Julien behind. His heartfelt farewell to Carol is a poignant reminder of the loved ones they have both lost over time.

Daryl Dixon Season 2 Episode 3 Recap: Ending!

The episode reaches a climax when Losang locks Daryl up. Due to his insane faith – the monk feels sorry for Daryl and calls him a hopeless person. However, Daryl’s lack of faith is what motivates him to take action, engage in combat, and keep moving forward in face of overwhelming obstacles. Daryl is cornered at the abbey and taken prisoner once more, so his future is uncertain even though Isabelle and Fallou are able to assist Laurent in escaping.

In the last seconds of the show, Carol who now appears to be siding with Madame Genet—reveals that her real reason for traveling to France is to murder Daryl, setting off a disturbing sequence of events. Even Genet is shocked by her remarks, but it’s unclear what exactly she means. Is Carol genuinely trying to kill Daryl or is this just one more of her cunning survival tactic?

Genet says in a scary voice, “Religion is not about hope,” as the group gets ready to head toward the Nest. It has to do with power. The scary words make it clear that Carol and Genet are really competing for power as they aim for the Nest and Daryl. With danger coming from every direction, Daryl and Laurent must decide not only if they can stay alive, but also if they can trust the people nearest to them.
