Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 1 Recap

The show GREY’S ANATOMY is currently on season 21, and the first episode of this season is known as “If Walls Could Talk.” The episode is filled with intense drama at Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital, where the fallout from Meredith Gray’s undercover research scandal causes tension among the staff.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 1: Bailey vs. Catherine

The episode opens with Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) standing firm against Catherine Avery (Debbie Allen), who threatens to fire the intern. Bailey challenges Catherine, questioning whether she can be replaced. Despite the drama of the dream, Bailey, along with fellow surgeons Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) and Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), are ultimately let go from the hospital, while Meredith resigns amid the chaos of the scandal.

Jackson Avery Arrives

Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) returns to Seattle, quickly making it clear he is not there to help Meredith deal with the fallout from her research. He insists they need to resolve the conflict surrounding the research as soon as possible. Jackson emphasizes the need for funds to advance medical research, causing Meredith to reconsider her move. Meanwhile, Catherine faints just when Meredith is about to confront her. She never revealed this information to her family; however, she has a tumor in the spinal part of her body.

She wishes to be applauded for the triumphs she scored in surgery not in medicine, and she defiantly rejects invasive procedures. While Meredith cannot bring herself to believe even the words that come out of Catherine’s mouth now, this is yet another layer of complication that she needs to work through in her interpersonal dynamic with Catherine….

Fallout and New Beginnings

The consequences of the firing start to show as the episode goes on. It is clear that the other doctors who were fired have been reinstated, although the details of the agreement between Meredith and Catherine are unknown. Meredith fears that his pioneering studies on Alzheimer’s disease will now take a different turn..

Bailey’s Decision

While her husband Ben (Jason George) intends to finish his surgical residency at Seattle Press, Bailey is seen working at a clinic.
